Yearning Sailor Turns Chinese Junk Home for 25 Years
New York May 6 AP A radio engineer mark of 25 years living aboard a Chinese junk named Amoy in New Rochelle highlights Alfred Nilsen 52 and his family. The vessel serves as home with living quarters aboard the hand hewn camphor wood boat with red dyed sails and eyes on the bow. Nilsen recounts marriage children jobs and a life aboard the junk since 1928 when he joined a Dutch sailor and later bought the boat. The family plans world travel while enjoying dockside comforts and free taxes with rent as low as seven dollars a month.
