Westminster Paper Receives Honors at Fulton College
Westminster college newspaper The Columns edited by Overton Harris Fulton senior, earned a second class rating from the Associated Collegiate Press. Journalism Awards Are Made at M. U.
Elzey Roberts of the St. Louis Star-Times told a University of Missouri Journalism week audience that democracy survives by arms and a free press by editorial integrity after accepting the university’s award for distinguished service in journalism. The Nieuwe Rotterdamse Courant of Rotterdam, Holland, was honored as foreign newspaper. The Chicago Daily News received a special reward for its 141 point portfolio exposing skid row conditions. Dean Frank Luther Mott presented four medals to Arthur Hays Sulzberger, Oveta Culp Hobby, Joe Alex Morris, and James Todd for contributions to journalism.

Three State Groups to Meet in Capital City This Weekend
Three state groups plan conventions in the Capital City over the weekend. The Association of Childhood Education of Missouri meets today in sessions at the Missouri and Governor hotels with about 50 people expected. Delta Kappa Gamma also convenes today for a two day statewide meeting at the Governor hotel with about 100 attendees. The Missouri Society of Professional Engineers begins a two day convention this afternoon at the Missouri hotel. Clarence Crutcher and Allie Evans of Dexter filed Thursday for a marriage license in the county recorder's office.

Centertown resident Boyde Swearingen is recovering at St. Marys hospital after a severe foot injury from while cutting brush with an ax in a road gang along the Russellville to Highway 54 route. He is employed by Hunters Construction Company. The ax penetrated his heavy shoe and cut to the bone.
