Missouri Senate rejects measure on savings and loan incorporation
After a lengthy debate the Missouri Senate defeated 17 to 164 a bill to permit incorporation of savings and loan associations with stock mergers. The bill faced opposition from several senators who argued it would favor profits over public service while supporters claimed it would give small savers a chance to share surplus. The chamber meanwhile approved six other bills including a sports complex for St Louis County and a second circuit judge for the 20th Judicial Circuit.

Minister Seeks Independent Run For Jefferson City School Board
Reverend Gary W. Baker of Capital City Christian Church has begun filing as an independent candidate for the April 3 Jefferson City School board election. He must submit 169 petition signatures by the March 19 deadline. Baker, parent of two East School students, cites interest in youths and has held roles at St. Louis Christian College and as a counselor. Mass meetings to nominate Republican and Democratic candidates for the same election are scheduled for Thursday evening.

Five Drug Suspects Plead Guilty in Circuit Court
Pre-sentence investigations were ordered Tuesday for five defendants charged with illegal drug sales after guilty pleas. Norman Woods of Lincoln University changed to guilty on selling marijuana, with 2.7 grams alleged on April 17, and another 2.4 grams on April 2. Lowery Bogce pleaded guilty to marijuana sales.
