Lt Cmdr Joseph Charles Plumb Jr. arrives in Kansas City to cheering crowds after years as a prisoner of war in Indochina. He pledges to tell the press about POW life while stressing the need to account for MIAs and awaiting fellow captives.
Mrs. John J. Brodak of Jennings Missouri waited seven years for word from her son Air Force Maj John W Brodak who was among 106 American POWs released from North Vietnam and shown on Clark Air Base. Brodak, shot down August 14 1966 over North Vietnam, appears calm in the televised return and will be evaluated at Scott Air Force Base before reassignment.
James Dulle and Jerry Parris were named co chairmen of the 1973 Cole County Fair by fair chairman Joe Reichart. Dulle, 27, runs Dulle Transfer and Storage and other firms. Parris, 29, works at Fechtel's Beverage and Sales and leads the Jefferson City Jaycees. The fair runs July 31 through August 4.

Baum 46 previously bishop of Springfield Cape Girardeau Mo born Dallas Nov 21 1926 ordained 1951 and consecrated 1970. David Johnson 41 of Henwick Lane files as Democratic candidate for the Jefferson City School Board. He cites a push for excellence and unity among schools business leaders and parents. Johnson contrasts with three rival Democrats and notes his background in education and business and four children in the district. Election set for April 3 with mass meetings at 7 30 p m Thursday for both parties.
Kansas City woman Karen Ballentine 20 dies in I 35 collision in Clay County. Her husband 22 and other driver and a bystander suffer minor injuries. A Warrensburg boy 5 dies from Saturday crash near Lee's Summit. A Sedalia couple 27 and 28 die when their car hits an abutment on I 70. A Mount Vernon woman 36 and another occupant hurt after a crash on Missouri 39 near Aurora. One Jefferson City boy 11 seriously hurt when motorcycle is struck on Route C in Cole County.
Police arrested three youths Sunday on theft charges after bottles disappeared from the Church of Nazarene on Schumate Chapel Road. Two teens were seen unloading bottles from a car at Schulte's IGA Foodliner before being linked to the church theft. Two suspects were jailed earlier then released on bond. a third youth was sent to the Juvenile Attention Center.
A Capital Projects Inc sheltered workshop public drive shows progress with a thermometer outside the current site at 400 W High St. Donations reached 37 639 as of today from supporters including Frank Railton and Larry Haake. The campaign aims to raise 100 000 to secure 77 000 in federal funds for a new building before the March 15 deadline.
Charles A. Shaffer 1507 Rosewood Dr. filed as a Republican candidate for the Jefferson City school board becoming the third Republican entrant. He cites district representation balance and parent taxpayer communication, notes past district success but seeks improvements, and opposes incumbent president Robert B. Dallmeyer Jr. and Phillip Small for the nomination. Shaffer and his wife Carol have two children and belong to Wesley United Methodist Church. He has held roles in state administration and auditing and is pursuing graduate study at Lincoln University. Elections are set for April 3 with nominations at mass meetings Thursday.
AFLCIO President George Meany says Nixon Phase 3 would fuel unrestrained food and rent hikes with tight wage limits. He criticizes White House briefing for omitting the Cost of Living Council advisory board’s stance on wage standards and accuses officials of shaping the news.
