Missouri to buy new driver licenses to save state money

The Office of Administration studied bids from DEK Processes Division of Scott & Fetzer Co Polaroid Corp and Electro Photo Systems to supply plastic photo driver licenses. Bid prices range from 25.2 to 41.5 cents per card with anticipated annual savings around 200000. A final decision is expected within ten days.

City sticker deadline near as office extends hours

City collector Ed Cole said the office will be open 8 30 am to 5 pm for city sticker sales. Monday is the last day to buy without penalty. Sales totals reached 10 196 after 913 sold Tuesday, with about 3 800 more expected before July 2. Penalties rise after July 3.

Local youth urged to engage in county and city government

Missouri youths should join local government and politics rather than federal affairs. Judge Tony Hiesberger urged participation at the Freedom Forum in Mexico, stressing local input, homework on candidates, and voting responsibility as age 18 rights. Letter questions Hoffa talk at MARC event sparks protest

A letter challenging former Teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa speaking at a MARC function prompted a denial from Dr. Michael Weijaczka, MARC’s past president. Hoffa is tied to a September 8 NAJ testimonial dinner with proceeds aiding a Missouri community project. A separate accident on Industrial Drive left Robert F. Smith injured. he was cited for failure to yield.

Missouri highway budget approved for next fiscal year

The Missouri State Highway Commission approved a 79.83 million dollar budget to maintain 32 000 miles of state highways. Most funds cover routine maintenance across 10 districts, with 7.6 million for leveling and resurfacing, 31.8 million for special bridge work, and additions for new maintenance buildings and traffic safety projects. An emergency fund of 600 thousand dollars was set aside for flood wind and crash repairs.

County assuages gas supply with price caveat

Texaco district office assured Cole County officials that gas and other oil products would be available for county vehicles but warned that the previously contracted price might not be honored. Judge Tony Hiesberger said the court would decide soon after consulting legal counsel James McHenry. The court also advanced a 32 page subdivision ordinance and discussed a proposed county Jefferson City clinical physician plan to coordinate public health services.

Bond Month Proclaimed in Missouri

Gov Christopher S Bond signed a proclamation designating July as US Savings Bond Month in Missouri. The kickoff luncheon at the Downtown Holiday Inn drew state department and agency officials as Bond urged state employees to participate in the savings bond campaign, becoming the first state official to sign up.
