Ground breaking planned for Jefferson City Library System

Ground breaking for the new Thomas Jefferson Library System is slated for spring 1970 with Smekttion set for June 1974 per Fred Vogel library board president and Doris Athy library director. The 38 565 square foot building at Adams and High will have three levels and potential expansion. Federal funds of 490 000 were granted, bringing total project cost to 1 650 000, with the library levy covering 1 600 000 over ten years. Construction delayed for legal reasons. architects Kenneth E. Wischmeyer & Partners of St. Louis designed the modular, warm gray stone building to serve Jefferson City and several counties.

Severe storm caus es wide power outages and flooding

Early morning thunderstorm knocked out power across Cedar City and Jefferson City with up to 10 inches of rain and 100 mile per hour winds. Utilities worked to sectionalize lines and restore service within about 30 minutes while crews battled downed poles and toppled trees. flooding threatened streams and rivers across Kansas and Missouri with specific crests forecast for the Little Blue and Marais Des Cygnes basins.

Nixon May Visit Philippines Reported in Manila

Reports from Manila say President Nixon might visit the Philippines soon. Apollo 11 is scheduled to launch on July 16 and is expected to reach the Pacific about 1,200 miles southwest of Honolulu.
