Merit pay bill passes amid House voting clash

The Missouri House approved a merit pay bill for state employees at about 133 per cent of current salaries, amid controversy after a larger pay hike for lawmakers judges and officials. Debate touched on regional pay disparities between metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas with amendment proposals to equalize scales. Some leaders argued the cost was overstated, while opponents warned about inflated figures and supported study. Several St. Louis lawmakers backed or opposed the measure as it moved through committee and floor votes.

Missouri Board Sets New Water Quality Standards

The Missouri Water Pollution Board finished setting water quality standards for interstate streams in response to the federal Water Quality Act of 1965. The standards were submitted to the Federal Water Pollution Control Administration for approval.

Missouri Prison Reform Praised by Joint Committee

Missouri redistricting back to Senate after House vote

The Missouri House rejected a redistricting bill amid partisan clash. The 10457 to 431 vote returns the measure to the Senate, where Senate leaders may act. House supporters say the plan benefits majorities in St Louis districts while preserving a constitutional amendment on bond issues. Police court jury finds man guilty

A six member jury returned a verdict of guilty against Huston, charged with negligent driving after a Tuesday Jefferson City crash on U. S. 54 near the High-Hton Huston junction. Huston was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $5 plus $12 court costs.
