Kansas City Area battered by rain and wind storm
A severe wind and rain storm struck eastern Kansas and western Missouri. One man, John T. Jones, 37, of Independence, was electrocuted after stepping from his car onto a power line felled by the storm. Winds up to 115 mph knocked down trees and damaged buildings, with 90 percent of damage from falling trees. No injuries were reported despite nearby cars struck by debris and planes toppled at Municipal Airport.

California Escapees Apprehended by Patrol in Fayette
State highway patrolmen arrested three escapees from a California mental hospital and held them in the Howard County jail. Identified were James W. Mooney 18 Frank Aggree 23 both Californians and Connie Sue Howard 15. They admitted stealing an automobile during the escape and await disposition by California authorities.

Ministers Hurt In Area Crash
Two ministers were injured when the auto they rode in went out of control on Rt Y near Eildon at about 5 pm. Rev. Henry Clay Brooks 32 of Doniphan Missouri and Roy George Bennett 30 of Safe Arkansas were admitted to Charles E. Still Hospital with minor injuries. Brooks was the driver. the car ran off a wet slick road and crashed.
