In a radio address President Eisenhower denounced communism and corruption in government. He urged youth to translate hopes into political action, citing his humble family background and Lincoln’s ideals. He urged Americans to restore belief in the American road and the Declaration as liberty and global hope.
London reports say Secretary of State Dean Acheson apologized at a private parliamentary meeting for keeping Britain in the dark about plans to bomb Korean power plants along the Yalu. He said, with Truman's approval, the U S would welcome a closer link with Britain in United Nations Korea operations.
Reports show extreme heat across the nation. Notable spikes include 105 at Newburgh and multiple 100s in cities such as Jacksonville and St. Louis. Government workers released from duties as heat persists. officials note a stretch of 90 plus degrees for days. A separate divorce petition was filed in Coles County by Thomas Frasher against Shirley Frasher.
Lon Richey aged 73, a former Missouri Pacific railroad conductor, died at 6 15 p.m. at his home 730 East McCarty Street after a long illness. Born January 30 1879 in Jefferson City Missouri he married Amanda Patrick February 21 1910. He moved from Sedalia to this city in 1917. Survived by his wife two daughters a son a brother and one grandchild. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Mrs Minnie Lee Westfall died at her daughter Mrs OL B Caldwell's home 417 Vista Pl at 7 am yesterday after 15 weeks illness. Born January 7 186? at Santa Fe Missouri she was daughter of Robert and Lydia Sinclair. She married Charles Westfall in Perry in 1588 and he died in 1925. Survived by two sons Clark Huntington Park California and Edward Hannibal, a granddaughter Mrs J K Summers and a great grandson. Funeral arrangements incomplete, body to Perry for burial. She attended Perry Christian Church. There is evidence of ancient Egypt Crete commerce over 6000 years REO.

After his death they lived on a farm near Clarksburg before she moved to California. Funeral at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church with burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. sister J C James of Omaha survives.
FBI issued a nationwide lookout for William Merle Martin age 42 as a suspect in the slaying of Deputy Willard Carver of Johnson County Kansas in Olathe. He is said to be armed with a .45 automatic and a .38 revolver and is also wanted for allegedly transporting a stolen car from Litchfield, Minnesota via Olathe. The deputy was killed after approaching an unruly group during a street disturbance investigation.
General Mark Clark stated the United Nations would continue to spend both lives and money to block Communist attempts to set up bases closer to Japan. He could not predict Korea’s outcome, but expressed confidence in defending Japan and the free world in the war-torn region.
Former Gov. Phil M. Donnelly charged that the Callanan Shenker Hogan axis wants a hand picked governor to control the state. He spoke in Maryville as part of his campaign to regain the office he held, naming foes and backers while denying Welch accusations of Pendergast machine influence.
Two police court defendants faced fines totaling 13 dollars with one receiving a 10 day jail sentence and the other 30 days probation. Jack Wardron of Kennett was fined 3 dollars and jailed 10 days for drunkenness at 4:25 p.m. at the Missouri Pacific depot. Gerald Christian of 607 Mullberry Street was fined 10 dollars and given 20 days probation after a speeding ticket on High Street at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Pennsylvania Governor John S. Fine said on radio that he is getting closer to General Dwight D. Eisenhower's views but stopped short of pledging support for Eisenhower for the Republican nomination. He noted concerns about large scale abroad spending and cited easing tensions since Eisenhower's return from Europe.
