Latin America to Get Modern U S Warships
Washington June 25 AP Secretary of the Navy Forces Star confirmed plans to furnish South American nations with modern U S warships as part of a Western Hemisphere policy of cooperation for mutual security. The Navy would substitute newer vessels for older types on an approximately equal tonnage basis. He did not specify vessel types but said ships in excess of our defenses are being prepared for transfer.

Brattleboro Vermont June 23 The 79 cow Holstein herd owned by Church Farm Dairy Jefferson City Missouri completed a year in the official Herd Improvement Registry. Average production was 379 pounds of butterfat and 11 368 pounds of milk with milking twice daily. The top producer was Algoas Agnes Fayne Lass 2141862 a year old cow yielding 550 pounds butterfat and 17 291 pounds of milk. Testing was supervised by the university of Missouri in cooperation with the Holstein Friesian Association.

Washington June 25 AP Prices of all living essentials except rent declined 0.3 percent between mid April and mid May for the first drop since 1942. Food prices fell 0.2 percent while rents rose 0.2 percent. The Bureau of Labor Statistics set the consumer price index at 155.8 on May 15, from a 186.3 peak in mid March, with 1935–39 as normal base.
