State Auditor George Lehr reports a six year audit of Hannibal Regional Diagnostic Clinic shows 25 percent of patients not billed for care during one month and more than 120000 in charges unpaid for over a year plus 18000 unpaid over six months. The clinic will certify delinquents by August and institute stronger billings and drug stock controls.
The attorney general is to opine on whether C Duane Hensley can serve as acting head of the Mental Health Department since the old law required a physician. The commission says reorganization left the director’s qualifications unclear and that acting status may not require medical credentials.
Federal postal inspectors investigate a pattern of mail tampering in Holts Summit including three missing payroll checks one cashed for two hundred dollars and others unknown. Incidents involve torn mail in mailboxes dead animals and occasional sightings of a small child responsible for some cases.
In San Diego Marine drill sergeant Harold L. Bronson testifies McClure was a momma s boy and malingerer who avoided combat training. Bronson, facing similar charges, says McClure never took free blows and appears to have faked injuries. Hazing was said to occur in the Motivation Platoon.
