Funeral Thursday for Carole Lynn Heidt

Carole Lynn Heidt died Monday night in an automobile accident. Funeral services are set for 2 30 p.m. Thursday at a local chapel with Rev. Frank Pennick officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Born in Jefferson City she was the daughter of Earl VY and LeMone Kays Heidt. A Jefferson City High School sophomore and a student nurse at University Hospital in Columbia, she is survived by sister Katherine Anne Heidt and paternal grandmother Lena Heidt. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church.

Walter Reed Dies At Eldon Home

Eldon special Walter Reed age 75 retired Rock Island railroad engineer died Sunday at his Eldon home. Born January 22 1884 he married Reppie Hewett in 1906. Survived by granddaughter Susan Jane Billings of Houston and brothers Alfred Reed of Labadie Oscar Reed of St Petersburg. Funeral 2 p m Wednesday at First Christian Church Eldon with Rev Van Dyke officiating burial in Eldon Cemetery under Masonic Lodge No 381.

Famous resort burns as 24 die in Norway blaze

A fire at a Norwegian resort near Naeroy Fjord killed 24 and injured 35, with resort guests including Horsie Caldwell and his wife escaping after alarms failed initially. Three victims were found dead while fleeing top floors, as cold night air and packed American tourism added tragedy. The blaze followed another hotel fire in Rome that killed three.

Hammarskjold Plans Journey to Cairo for Talks

U N Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold will travel to Cairo on July 1 for two days of talks with United Arab Republic officials on halting Israeli cargoes in the Suez Canal. He will stop in Denmark and Sweden, return to Geneva July 3, and attend the East West foreign ministers conference resuming July 13.

Millstone bid leads for federal office building in St Louis

AP reports Millstone Construction Co Inc of St Louis submitted the apparent low bid of 7 733 000 for a new federal office building in downtown St Louis. GSA opened six bids with Paul Tishman Co of New York City placing 7 738 800 as the next lowest bid. Bid results to be reviewed and winner announced in Washington in about two weeks.
