Jefferson City Police and the State Highway Patrol seek a man who passed a $75 check as payment for dental work. The suspect, calling himself Ted C. Adams, claimed to work for Capital Poultry Co. The man, about 40, 5 ft 9 in, 175 lb, was well dressed and persuasive. he may be with a woman named Mrs Lucille Adams. Dr. B Smith Reed, 13144 E High St, was paid with the bad check.
Eight area men among 109 Missourians, army and marine veterans of Korean fighting, listed as due to arrive last night in San Francisco on the transport Gen M C Meigs. All area men are Marine First Division veterans and include Cpl Carl D Beals Sgt Harold A Beck Cpl Robert L Blake Cpl Freddie G Crowe Cpl Clifford E Greer Pvt Norbert H Lepper Cpl Clarence A Me bruer and Cpl Thomas R Sisco.

Ernest Jenkins aged 42 of 301 Marshall St. died at St. Mary's Hospital after a one car crash on County Rd A west of Marion. A passenger, William Roll, 73, was treated and released. Other injuries from separate crashes near Versailles Barnett and Montgomery County are noted with minor to severe injuries and vehicle damages.
Captain Jan Cwiklinski of the Polish liner Batory and the ship’s medical officer deserted ashore at Hebburn near South Shields and requested asylum in Britain. Officials said the appeal is under study with expectations of approval. Cwiklinski, a WWII naval hero, previously opposed efforts to seize Eisler.

Hemmel and Eggers of Jefferson City won a contract from Presiding Judge Charles Buchanan to paint the Cole County Courthouse and jail interiors and exteriors. The bid, between 2900 and 3000 dollars, was the lowest among four bidders.

Boonville police and a deputy sheriff arrested Cornelius Lee Smith 15 of St. Louis near 8 p m last night on the escape from the Missouri State Training School for Boys at Boonville. A manhunt continues for Eugene Keller 33 missing from the Missouri State Penitentiary Church Farm. Keller, serving four years for auto larceny from Dunklin County, may be heading toward Rector Arkansas, his mother’s home.
