PSC joins battle over gas ruling

The Missouri Public Service Commission agreed to appeal a Federal Power Commission decision limiting gas for Cities Service Gas Co and related utilities. The ruling affects over 900,000 customers in 400 communities in Missouri and Kansas, with Gas Service Co. of Kansas City as the largest affected customer. Ethiopian's charge discontinued in marijuana case

A charge of sale of marijuana against Mulugeta Asfaw, 28, Walsh Street, was discontinued by the county prosecuting attorney after he was turned over to immigration authorities. He faced a February 24 arrest for selling marijuana. Asfaw, a native of Ethiopia, had attended Lincoln University and worked as a butler at the Governor's Mansion.

Vanderfeltz receives optometry doctorate in Illinois

Donald J. Vanderfeltz son of Mr and Mrs Leon Vanderfeltz Route 1 received a Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry Chicago. He will practice with Dr H M Agniel 215 E Capitol Ave. He attended Helias High School and Christian Brothers College Memphis. He led optometry groups and earned a visual therapy certificate. City police investigate forged prescription incident at Dixon's Discount Pharmacy 2243 Industrial Dr. A man and a woman left after a prescription allegedly issued by Dr Charles A Lichty, who says he did not issue it. The suspect is a white male 5 feet 8 inches tall, 200 pounds with short brown hair. No link found to earlier forged prescription incident.

Jail Fire Kills 20 Prisoners in Saint John City Hall

A late night blaze in the Saint John City Hall detention block killed 20 prisoners and injured 14, many of them recently transferred from a provincial jail after widespread cell damage. Fire officials noted the fire likely started in a padded maximum security cell, while police said the cause remained undetermined.
