Park funds sought for land purchase and golf course

Jefferson City seeks about 75000 in matching state funds to buy a six acre tract near Binder Lake for a park that would later host a lighted nine hole golf course. MMCOG favorably reviewed park, port, and housing studies and other proposals including Boonville’s 466000 industrial project and a new pool.

Soviets Stock Grain Harvest Forecast Released

Washington AP reports the Soviet Union's 1976 grain harvest is forecast at 155 million metric tons, 7.3 percent below Moscow's goal but 36 percent above last year's drought hit crop. The USDA cautions several growing weeks remain, with total output likely to miss the 205 million ton target.

Ruling preserves ban on bargaining in Missouri case

City leaders and officials react neutrally to the Supreme Court ruling upholding Missouri law barring collective bargaining for police and teachers. Local police chief Lt Col L. Patton says the decision affects no local bargaining plans and cites years without union moves. School officials note no formal stance yet, but many Jefferson City teachers belong to MSTA. joining AF of T or NEA would be possible under current policy. City Public Works faces resignations delaying projects

Engineer Jack Kramer will resign July 1 from the City Public Works Department and join a local firm. The move will not affect active projects but will delay others and leaves two vacancies in Public Works. Police vacancies also prompt use of off duty officers and cutbacks on bank escort services, with exams next week to fill posts. Ralph Cashow promoted to corporal.

Body of girl found in creek near Belton school

Police found a badly decomposed teenage girl body in a creek near a Belton school. The missing girl, estimated at about 17, had severe facial wounds and had been in the water about two weeks. No death cause determined.
