Missouri reorganization plan under review by Gov Bond

Governor Bond weighs veto or sign on broader executive reorganization approved by the Missouri General Assembly. The plan cuts 87 agencies to 70, creates 13 departments and an Office of Administration, and places most budgeting under department directors while keeping tight legislative control on appropriations. The changes would take effect July 1, 1974 with implementation possible this fall.

Bond lowered for Wolfe in multiple county burglary case

Judge Riley reduced Wolfe's bond from 50000 to 25000 on a burglary and stealing charge after transfer to his court. Wolfe, 26, faces forcible entry at Meyer Electric Co and has prior armed robberies and theft counts. He was previously held on several bonds totaling 30500 and may be re-arrested in Cooper County.

Laird involved in stock fraud inquiry, SEC says

The SEC asserts former Defense Secretary Melvin Laird directed aides to intervene in a stock fraud probe of Edward Ball and the Florida East Coast Railway. SEC attorneys reported the inquiries were made last autumn as the agency sued Ball and the railway in January.

Police seek robbers in Carmine Vignola residence theft

Police investigate an armed robbery June 12 at 2611 Schellridge Road where two or more robbers tied the Vignolas and stole a safe with personal papers and part of a coin collection. FBI and state officers were notified. descriptions of the safe were provided.

Hiesberger attacks MLEA shift in priorities

Cole County Judge Tony Hiesberger criticized the Missouri Law Enforcement Assistance Council for expanding state administration and building a bureaucracy while cutting essential programs. He cited loss of narcotics funds and insufficient equipment for mobile units, warning communities may bear the cost and lose timely information access. Region 3 officials, including Cole, Boone, and Callaway counties, had asked Atty. Gen. John Danforth for help.
