Prison Without Walls Opens for Women at Tehachapi
A California Institute for Women will debut July 1 at Tehachapi with 120 inmates in four main buildings. The farm focused ranch will have no guards or walls, and inmates will perform farm tasks, cooking, sewing, and bookkeeping. A three hour daily recreation period will aid rehabilitation.

Funeral services for Dorothy Farmer in Fulton today
The funeral for Dorothy Farmer, killed in a Saturday highway crash on Highway 5, will be held at the Fulton Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. Burial follows at the local cemetery. Rosy Smith, driver of the other car, was more seriously injured, with a fractured leg and other wounds. Doc Shikles remained in uncertain condition.

Investigation orders ownership probe of two telephone firms
