Nashville Illinois June 20. A miner killed two officers, Sheriff May and City Marshal Leker, while seeking his daughter who he said eloped with John Evilsizer H. C. Rice. Leker fired back fatally wounding Rice.

She says she was never married to Wallace Dye and challenges the claim she owns $20 000 in New York real estate. She asserts Peters and his son lived off her funds and that she advanced him 2000 at various times. She states her money paid for the Jefferson City home furniture and the 1100 automobile used by Peters.
Mrs. Huegel, wife of Central hotel owner, cut seven acres of alfalfa on a 22 acre farm near Binder park. She sat on a two horse mower and drove a two acre patch to finish the task, citing a wish to complete the job.
W C Irwin said he was retained only to draft the law now in effect and denied any involvement with bribery. A Jefferson City dispatch notes Gov Gardner and A G McAllister plan to call the Cole county grand jury to review St Louis bribery charges arising from a state inquiry.
President Wilson issued a call for 70,000 volunteers for the regular army noting June 23 to 30 as recruiting week. The proclamation cites an alarming slump in enlistments since June 1.
