Beverly Morrow Hurt in Expressway Collision

Beverly Jo Morrow, 25, of 1800 Notre Dame St., was injured in a two car crash at the Expressway Monroe Street intersection around 7:05 am Thursday. Her vehicle, traveling east on the Expressway, turned onto Monroe Street and was struck by Robert A. Faber, 24, of Westphalia, traveling west on the Expressway. She was treated at St. Mary’s Health Center and released.

Court settles temporary site for Juvenile Attention Center

The Cole County Court signed a one year lease with Jim Stegeman for a house at 311 E Miller St to serve as a temporary Juvenile Attention Center. The two story brick building will house the center until a new facility is built, with rent set at 450 dollars per month and a move planned by July 1. Local officials had sought federal funding of 695000 dollars from HUD for a permanent center, but HUD recently denied the request. City leaders plan a HUD meeting in Columbia to resubmit and resolve misunderstandings about the application.

Senior Center Activities at Jefferson City Center

Jefferson City Senior Center hosts 60 plus residents with noonday meals at the Dine-A-Day site. Activities run 2 to 4 p.m. at 10 Jackson St with card games bingo and a monthly devotional. Evening films bus trips and a pot luck picnic are planned along with Sunday Bible study services and a church service.

Remodeling slated for press room

Jefferson City contractor Don Mueller Construction Co submitted the apparent low bid of 6881 dollars for remodeling the Capitol Press Room. Four bids were opened by the Division of Design and Construction with other bids ranging from 7590 to 8322 dollars. The facilities serve two news services two daily newspapers and two radio news agencies.

Jackson elected president of Heart of Missouri Humane Society

Barry Jackson of 3820 Country Club Dr., active in the society, was named president amid plans for a new Jefferson City shelter this year to relieve overcrowding. He urged a larger facility to accommodate bigger dogs and to support neutering and pet care education. Other officers include Robert Fuchs as vice president Joan Simonds as secretary and Lon Stone as treasurer.

Couple Robbed Twice in Dudley Missouri

Stoddard County authorities planned to seek warrants Thursday for three men suspected in robbing farmer Glen Harrison and his wife twice this month. The couple were tied and restrained during the Wednesday night break in with one assailant wearing a ski mask. The earlier June 2 incident involved two men with sacks over their heads. No injuries were reported.

Two deny guilt to tax charges in Missouri court

Camile Hile and Stanley Pesek pleaded not guilty to three counts each of failing to file sales tax returns during charges reading in Cole County Magistrate Court. The Daily Capital News incorrectly reported they pleaded guilty.

Watermelon Vendor Darrell Rollings Faces City Court Charge

Police arrest Darrell L. Rollings 32 of 311 W Dunklin St for selling watermelons not grown by him without a city peddler license. He was held after a Wednesday arrest at 100 W Dunklin St and released on a $50 bond.

Correction on Bond Forfeitures in Local Accident Case

The Capital News corrects a Thursday report. It states Paul Backues did not forfeit a $60 bond for leaving the scene at a four accident. Jack L. Berg, 43, Sugar Creek, forfeited the bond.
