Hearnes defied by party vote at state convention

Former Missouri Governor Warren Hearnes failed to win reelection as a Democratic National Committee member at the state convention. Sen. Thomas Eagleton led the effort against him, while Hearnes vowed the defeat won’t derail his August primary bid against Congressmen James Symington and Jerry Litton. Hearnes criticized Eagleton’s control and noted staffers are aiding Symington.

Woman Injured In Sunday One-Vehicle Crash

Mrs. Judy D. Meyer of Washington in stable condition at University of Missouri Columbia Medical Center after a one vehicle crash on eastbound U.S. 50 Osage County two miles east of Loose Creek. Vehicle ran off the road, struck a fence, and she was transferred from St. Mary's Health Center. Bloodmobile drives announced at First Christian Church and Eagles Lodge sponsored by local union 513. Separately, political remarks touch Hearnes and Danforth intra party issues at a Missouri event, with debates over slate inclusion and delegate seats.

Little Theatre wins grant to stage 1776 in Bicentennial year

Jefferson City Little Theatre receives a $2500 grant for performances of 1776 during the Bicentennial year. Miss Carolyn McDowell of the Missouri American Revolution Bicentennial Commission presented the check to the theatre board. The grant lifts Jefferson City outside Bicentennial funding to $827,250 while state funds earmarked for Jefferson Landing total $600,000. Other awards include $10,000 to the state, $4500 to Lincoln University, $5,000 to Jefferson City High School Band, $5,000 to the Cole County Historical Society, and $250 to the local Daughters of the American Revolution.

Public meetings listed include Jefferson City Park Board noon at the board office and Thomas Jefferson Regional Library Board Tuesday at the library on the third floor. Mid-Missouri Council of Governments meets 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fulton City Hall. Planning and Zoning Commission meets 7:30 p.m. Thursday in City Council Chamber. FBI contacts with journalist cited ahead of probe

The FBI says it had two contacts with Nashville journalist Jacque Srouji shortly before she testified to a House subcommittee on nuclear security. A special Justice Department team is investigating possible bureau efforts to use her to influence the congressional probe. The FBI confirmed the contacts in a letter to the subcommittee chair.

Hearnes campaign to visit Jefferson City area

Former Gov Warren Hearnes will bring his U S Senate bid to mid Missouri this week with a Friday Jefferson City press conference and a tour of the Callaway County nuclear plant site He plans a campaign kickoff in Columbia followed by stops in Phelps Pulaski and Randolph counties as Jerry Litton also campaigns in the capital city with a morning downtown area effort and a 5 30 to 7 30 p m reception at Selinger Centre.
