Riverside court recesses slaying trial for Sgt Walker
The murder trial of Air Force Sgt Lawrence J Walker at Riverside is in recess until next Tuesday as a new jury panel of 40 is sworn. Defense claims the prosecution used peremptory challenges to exclude Negro and Mexican American jurors. Prosecution says nine of 90 challenges were used, including two against Negroes and two against Mexican Americans. The case involves Walker accused of the March 26 slaying of Richard Cook and his wife Doris, both 19, near Riverside while Walker was stationed at March Air Force Base.
