Secretary McAdoo announced the Liberty Loan goal of two billion dollars has been surpassed with unofficial figures through 5 p m suggesting the loan may total as high as two and a half billion. Final tallies were awaited from Treasury officials expected by 9 p m.
Petrograd reports Russia will act on England's suggestion to revive inter-ally treaties. The cabinet plans a conference with the allies and the Root commission will be heard tomorrow as Russia’s international situation quiets.
Major General Pershing's second day in Paris centers on a visit to Napoleon's grave and a state breakfast by President Poincare. French celebrations show strong affection for the American commander as he emphasizes that he came to fight for liberty, not to give speeches.
London June 14. The 800000 Grecian army faces no chance of armed resistance as all routes to Macedonia are blocked. The allied forces and General Serrail’s army form a ring of steel guarding the pass and preventing loyalty protests against the deposed king.
London on June 14 reported Earl Derby warning an air raid was imminent but no raid occurred before nightfall. No damage or casualties were reported.
At a Commercial club meeting in Jefferson City officials urged rapid sale of Liberty Bonds. Walter Mitchell and F H Staley spoke for banks, pledging strong subscriptions as a boost to war financing. Sam B. Cook and A A Speer announced multi thousand dollar commitments and optimism that bonds will outperform expectations. The event underscored local support for the national effort.
At a 24-hour session the Lincoln Institute board failed to re elect Prof. B Fk Allen as president for the coming year. Prof Inman Page, former head of the local colored school, is named as a probable successor, with June 29 set to decide. The move follows statewide protests over Allen’s retention amid political allegations. Guy Chinn was re elected board president and Nelson Burch again secretary.
A large crowd witnessed two tall flag raisings with 850 salute troops at Missouri Pacific depot and a parade led by Governor Gardner with aides Col. Lawson Price and Major Linxwiler. Hon. A T Dumin spoke, then F A Mayhall addressed at the mansion before the procession to the capitol.
W R Baker & Co of Joplin and San Antonio night purchased Palm & Palm interest in the Madison hotel and took the lease from James A Houchin. Baker declares the hostel ry will be open to Jefferson City people anytime and aims to run a strong hotel business with plans to make it a popular resort.
The forecast calls for sunny spells on Thursday and Friday with warmer temperatures and clear skies into Saturday. Weekend appears warmer overall with high temperatures rising and light winds.
