Missouri to aid victims of foreign competition workers

Gov. Bond signed a federal program agreement allowing Missourians who lost jobs to foreign imports and tariff changes to seek unemployment benefits up to 176 a week for up to a year and a half, plus job search and relocation allowances. The program targets auto and shoe industries with thousands potentially eligible and about 100000 workers nationwide expected to participate for roughly 350 million dollars in federal funds yearly.

Air fare hike gains backing from Missouri delegation

U S Senator Thomas Eagleton and eight Missouri colleagues urged the Civil Aeronautics Board to approve TWA fare increases and higher mail subsidies after the airline reported a daily loss of about 1 million dollars. They cited recession and fuel costs as presses on TWA and warned the move risks 9,700 Missouri employees.

Five to stand trial shows five inmates bound over

Five men bound over for Circuit Court trial after preliminary hearings in Magistrate Court. Earl Lee Harris and Ronald Valentine, inmates at the Missouri State Penitentiary, remanded to Corrections after stabbing inmate William Coleman Everett on May 11. Stanley Anderson waived his hearing and is remanded to Corrections for concealing a weapon on May 15. John Paul Huckabee and Billy Joe Shoults bound over for exhibiting a sawed off rifle on May 28. Shoults free on 2000 dollars bond while Huckabee’s 2000 dollar bond was revoked and he is jailed at Cole County. Trial dates to be set July 21. Webster to present at Missouri Committee session

State Sen. Richard Webster, R-Carthage, will speak to the Missouri Committee to Restore the Constitution at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Jefferson City Ramada Inn. The day-long session begins at 10 a.m. with emphasis on land control, solid waste legislation, gun control and other issues.

Camdenton Volunteers Honored for Saving Child

Gary Flockhart and Steve Boillot of Camdenton received Certificates of Commendation from Missouri for lifesaving efforts after 12 year old Ralph Ahart was injured in a tractor accident on May 16. They administered aid until the boy reached the hospital.

City sticker sales rise with July 1 deadline near

City Collector Ed Cole says about 11 000 more stickers may be sold before July 1. So far 3 605 have been sold this year, 746 more than the same period last year, with around 25 000 dollars collected. Residents urged to buy early to avoid penalties, and new motorcycle, truck, and dog tags are on sale with requirements including tax receipts and registrations.

City sales tax rebound after April drop noted

City Collector Ed Cole reports May sales tax revenue rose by 29,293.39 over May 1974, while April fell by 31,635.92 from 1974 levels. May totals reached 145,386.74 versus 116,093.35 in 1974, with eight months of the fiscal year surpassing 1974 totals.

Daniel Cole of 829 Southwest Blvd and Keith Keitel of 1606 E McCarty St graduated summa cum laude from University of Missouri-Rolla with B S degrees in engineering management and electrical engineering respectively. David Wisch of 1210 Edgewood Dr earned magna cum laude with a B S in civil engineering.
