Death sentence for Polish war crimes in Rzeszow region

Three Polish men Emil Opielowski aged 52 Jozef Jamroz 58 and Jozef Dzimira 48 were sentenced to death by a provincial court at Rzeszow on war crimes charges. Mrs. Deloris Earline Rucker a 30 year old tavern operator received the maximum manslaughter penalty of 10 years in prison after pleading guilty on May 9. Jurors heard she and Paul Whitaker 31 had a volatile affair ending with Whitaker shot three times at her downtown Joplin tavern on March 8.

Second 1962 cotton bale delivered in Harlingen

The second bale arrived in Harlingen Texas on Monday when Lee McCorkle of Lyford delivered it to the police station for eligibility in the $500 second bale prize offered by the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce cotton committee. The first bale by Ray Barnick of Mission earned the $750 prize after certification.

Crosby Kemper appeals for funds in Missouri senate bid

Crosby Kemper Jr. calling for campaign contributions citing a rising fund shortfall as he campaigns across Missouri. Michael Tate 13 Fatally Burned In Home Accident

Funeral services will be held for Michael Edward Tate 13 of New Bloomfield at 2 p.m. Wednesday in a local funeral home. He died Monday at Charles E. Still Hospital after severe burns from fumes ignited by sparks from striking metal. Survivors include his parents two brothers a stepsister and two sisters. He was a News Tribune carrier and attended New Bloomfield Public School.

Wheat Crop Forecast Cuts for 1962 Rainy, Dry Conditions Report

The Agriculture Department forecast the 1962 wheat crop at 1.058 billion bushels, 14 percent below 1961 and 6 percent under the ten year average. Winter wheat projected at 846.2 million bushels, down 21 percent from last year while spring wheat is set at 211.5 million bushels, up from 1961 but 16 percent under average. No estimate for corn and other feed grains. Cotton planting rises in the Southeast as soil dries, tobacco stands hindered by hot dry spell, later aided by rain.

Honorary Degrees Granted at St. Paul School of Theology

In Kansas City AP reported the first commencement at St. Paul School of Theology two Methodist churchmen received honorary doctor of divinity degrees. Dr Dana Dawson formerly bishop of Kansas and Dr Eugene M Frank bishop of Missouri were honored for helping establish the school. Twenty two graduates.

Baseball Scores National League and American League updates

The National League saw Philadelphia defeat St Louis 8 to 5 and New York beat Houston 3 to 1 while Pittsburgh topped Chicago 6 to 1. In the American League Cleveland crushed Boston 10 to 0 and Baltimore defeated New York 5 to 3 with Kansas City over Portland 8 to 4. Only games scheduled remain.
