Richard Nacy named committee chairman to coordinate local plans for Democratic rallies listening to Roosevelt’s nominating speech. Local rally on June 27 at the statehouse grounds with tickets optional. funds support daily campaign costs and the Democratic National Committee.
AP reports Missouri postmasters were named as chairmen of fundraising units for the Democratic campaign but New York national party headquarters said none would be active fundraisers. Some postmasters said they declined and one, C. W. Greenwade of Springfield, was told he would be relieved. A spokesman for Postmaster General James A. Farley noted some postmasters may appear on lists but would serve only as honorary chairmen with other members appointed to raise funds.
Generally fair conditions prevail with slight warming in the west and north. Friday and Saturday will be partly cloudy and warmer. Missouri River at 6 pm yesterday stood at 10.74 feet, down 0.54 from morning. High today reached 79 degrees.
U S political fundraising shows over one million dollars in three months with details filed by parties. The Democratic National Committee reports 260,891 for March to May, with a 299,074 May 31 balance after 188,918 in outlays. GOP records a 320,856 balance and 792,405 income, including 425,132 from contributions. American Liberty League reports 124,247 receipts and 146,901 expenditures, noting a larger ongoing balance since August 1984. The National Union for Social Justice reports 186,248 in contributions led by Father Coughlin.
Maj. Maim Lford C. Stark, a Democratic gubernatorial hopeful, says Missouri would swing decisively for the Democrats in the general election next fall, regardless of the Republican candidate. He cites strong party organization and notes Landon’s candidacy would not alter the political picture. Stark reports broad support across northwest Missouri and expects continued campaign momentum through primary and November elections. He plans stops in Buffalo and a Southeast Missouria convention before touring Ozark counties.
Jefferson City will host a stop on the 686 mile Missouri state air tour with about 25 airplanes taking off from Lambert Airport at 10 o clock morning and ending at the Columbia airport Sunday afternoon. Stops include Mexico and Jefferson City en route to Bagnell Dam for the first overnight, with arrival expected between 3 and 4 pm. A reception committee and local officials will greet the airmen.
Marriage licenses were issued yesterday in Capital City to Edward S. Nichols and Mable Nichols of Hartsburg, Archie C. McKnight of Chamois and Lillian Immeil of New Haven, and Silas F. Smith and Ima Chambers of Jefferson City.
Heaton, a fugitive from highway patrol, was sentenced to six months in jail after fleeing arresting officers. Arrested in Kansas City, he was brought back to Jeffersont City and arraigned before Justice LePage. Troopers had suspected a 1930 Fare coupe used in thefts, and Heaton and two companions were detained. merchandise was later recovered and returned.
Matthew S. Murray state WPA administrator announced that work projects would be stopped temporarily for the harvest in Missouri. Investigations indicated farmers generally faced no shortage of harvest hands, with reports from Hannibal, Joplin, Sikeston, and Moberly showing no interference. Murray noted some areas had already harvested much of their crop and no shortages were reported in Noble, Aldrich, or the northeast district, while he asked districts to review labor conditions after receiving a few complaints.
Two men were held by local police during an investigation into the theft of a 1925 Oldsmobile sedan reported stolen at 3:30 yesterday morning in Kansas City. The car owner was J. R. Head of Kansas City, and arrests were made by Officer George Vandament and a highway patrolman at nearby addresses.

Prominent central Missouri physician Dr Meads of Linn died yesterday at 42 after a long illness of high blood pressure. His wife found him struggling for breath shortly after noon. He had served as Osage county coroner and recently opened an emergency hospital at Linn. He practiced in Bunnets Mill and Chamois and was born in Ava. He moved to St Louis area childhood, attended local schools and Loyola College, Chi reana. He served in World War I in the medical corps, then returned to Missouri. He married Miss Rima Green of Linn. funeral arrangements announced for 2 p.m. at the Methodist church in Linn with burial in the National Cemetery.
Park of Missouri leaders and staff arrive in Dallas with about 140 citizens to attend the centennial Missouri exposition. Governor and officials prepare plans for the week of events including a Boy Scout burr event and the governor’s address marking the state’s centennial celebration.
Recruiting Officer R G McMullen will remain in Jefferson City on recruiting duty through October 1 1937. Station records credit him with signing up 78 central Missouri youths into the U S Navy during his tenure here. McMullen, in service 18 years, previously served aboard the USS Oklahoma for a decade.

J J Slate a longtime resident and city stone cutter died from heart trouble yesterday on West Main Street. Born in LAGE, Slate was survived by his wife and several siblings. The obituary notes his 38 years of marriage and service to local trades, with references to family members and the Catholic church involvement. Police and coroner details accompany the event.
Agents seized 95 gallons of liquor including moonshine in a raid near Koeltatown, arresting a man after a search that uncovered ten-gallon casks and a 30-gallon barrel. Former State Senator Peter Terry of Festus, aged 59, died of heart disease yesterday in a Jefferson County courthouse at Hillsboro while involved in a lawsuit. He served as Festus mayor from 1913 to 1917 and was elected to the State Senate from the Twenty-sixth district in 1926, re-elected in 1930, and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
