Sewer plan studied for Gray's Creek area west of Jefferson City

Cole County officials reviewed a study proposing a sewer collection system linking Gray's Creek area to Jefferson City's treatment facility as an alternative to a $9.5 million plant. The plan would serve about 700 buildings, funded mostly by federal and state grants, with a $950,000 bond plant cost financed by users. Proposals included holding tanks and pumping to the city plant, or building a full treatment facility, with experts noting impacts on annexation and river discharge.

Armed robber nets $219 from APCO station

A lone armed robber escaped with 2193 Thursday night from APCO Service Station at 1013 Jefferson St. in the second local robbery in two weeks. Police suspect the same man who held up a Seven-Eleven Sundries and a liquor store on Madison St., stealing 585. Eight people were present. the robber, described as a white male about 5'6" with oily brown hair, a mustache and sunglasses, fled into a wooded area after threatening the staff and forcing four inside an office.

Missouri Senate OKs utility pooling amendment

A constitutional amendment allowing municipalities to pool resources for utility plants won Senate approval 30-0 after House agreement. It would require voter approval in 1978 to join the state constitution and enable enabling legislation for municipalities to cooperatively deliver electric power amid rising generation costs.

Water district audit flags inequity and mismanagement

State Auditor's Office released an audit of Public Water Supply District Two citing inequitable customer charges and questionable practices. The report notes inadequate accounting, lack of internal controls, untracked meters, misapplied rates, absent purchase orders, missing minutes, and potential violations of state law including improper bond handling and indebtedness without a vote.

Six people held in car theft ring

Six suspects, including Sam J. Antinova and Ronald Bartoli, were arrested in a federal probe into a stolen car ring spanning St. Louis Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The group allegedly stole late model Lincoln Continental Mark IVs and sold them with counterfeit Missouri titles, with twelve cars recovered worth about 120000.

Welfare fraud funds collected in western Missouri

Sif.OSEPH Mo AP Nearly $225 000 in welfare fraud recovered since last September as Missouri DSS investigation unit operates in 22 counties. 720 cases referred to Jefferson City totaling losses near $551 000 with 18 convictions in Kansas City. statewide 2 251 welfare fraud cases with losses about $1.2 million. Next month prosecutors will start Medicaid fraud probes in Missouri.
