New Type Plane Reaches Supersonic Range Yet To Go
Air Secretary Symington said the XS-1 experimental plane has flown much faster than sound, with Captain Charles E. Yeager the only pilot to break the sonic wall. The XS-1, designed for 1,017 mph at 40,000 ft and 1,700 mph at 80,000 ft, sits at Wright Field and uses Bell Aircraft for production.

Joseph William Burkett aged 65 a former Jefferson City resident now living in Overland Park St Louis county died at his home yesterday from a heart attack. He left Jefferson City about 40 years ago at age 25. Surviving are his wife Carrie a daughter Mrs S Meyers two sons Walter and Tennyson both of St Louis two sisters Mrs Ed Linville and Mrs Arthur Vogt both of Jefferson City and one brother Thomas Burkett of Jefferson City. Funeral services will be conducted in St Louis Saturday.

Fred C. Gove 81, a prominent Osage county farmer, died at St Marys hospital Wednesday at 3 25 p m after general infirmities of old age. He was born November 15 1866 at Mount Aerial, married to Hattie Hassler October 29 1899, who died 15 years ago. He is survived by his son Alfred Gove of Freedom, brother Chris H Gove of Kansas City, and half brothers Phillip and Emile Gove of Kansas City. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery near Linn.
