Banks Escape Hoodlum Probe After Struggle

Washington banks dodge a costly probe by Reuters and the Chicago Tribune Press Service. Alma Damage Rips Through Northwest Jacksonville

Gusts reached 100 miles per hour twenty miles south of Tallahassee as Alma moved inland. The storm’s long Gulf coast trek triggered strong winds up to 100 mph and 61 mph gusts in Tallahassee, uprooting trees and causing lights to flicker in sections.

Ozark Employes Agree to Talks

A union representing about 00 Ozark Airlines employees said it accepted an invitation to meet in Washington next Tuesday with the National Mediation Service to resolve a dispute with the company. The union has set a strike for June 17 and will be represented, with clerical workers ticket agents and cargo handlers scheduled to strike.

All victims have Topeka addresses or ties. A unidentified man is also listed.

Peace Front Continues as Viet Nam Casualties Rise

North Vietnam estimated 300 or more enemy deaths on the battlefield 260 miles north of Saigon and 250 Viet Cong killed 48 miles north of Saigon as three U.S. planes were lost during 81 missions. Allied combat deaths fell to 244 last week from 930 the prior week while American deaths totaled 109 versus 87. Buddhist monks and nuns issued a manifesto condemning American Viet Nam policy but urged conciliation over protest.
