Turkey truck crash injures five and kills hundreds of birds
Cleanup followed two related traffic accidents involving a tractor trailer loaded with 21 200 turkeys and a city police car. Five people were injured, none hospitalized. at least 600 turkeys died and one police car was destroyed. The truck overturned near the Madison Street overpass on Highway 54 North after the driver failed to negotiate a curve.

Springfield 8 Year Old In Critical Condition After Near Drowning
An eight year old Springfield youth remained in critical condition in intensive care after more than 20 minutes underwater Tuesday in the James River. Greene County authorities said Mark Staudt was pulled from the water at 11 40 am. The medical examiner noted survival would be rare but possible and suspected a larynx spasm trapped air, leading to the extended struggle. Officials reported the boy is responding to treatment and on a respirator at the scene.
