Stewart wins major toastmaster trophy at Jefferson club

Powers to serve as youth minister at Capital City Church

Pat Powers son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Powers will serve as youth minister at Capital City Christian Church this summer. A 1969 Jefferson City High School graduate and sophomore at St. Louis Christian College, Powers will co direct Youth Church and Youth Group Meetings with Gary W. Beker. Day Camp runs June 16 to July 14 with Bible study recreation and field trips to the state prison and Eureka Springs Arkansas for the Passion Play.

Missouri House passes drug control bill for governor

The Missouri House approved a key drug and narcotics control measure aimed at modernizing laws since 1937. It would make small scale marijuana possession a misdemeanor on first offense and a felony on subsequent violations, and requires a state education department drug education program in public schools.

Senate approves pari mutuel betting at Missouri tracks

The Missouri Senate approved a constitutional change by a 18 to 15 vote to permit at the track pari mutuel betting at horse venues. The plan, still needing voter approval, excludes state officials with ties to tracks and allows any breed racing. Also advancing was a bill to create area ambulance districts with a 15 cent tax floor and cross county reach, plus YMCA summer dance classes for girls starting June 10 with fee details and registration.

Cole County Wins Second Circuit Judge Pending Governor Approval

The Missouri House approved creating a second Cole County circuit judge by a 145 to 1 vote and sent the bill to the governor. If signed, Cole County would elect a second judge in 1972, take office January 1973, and divide the court into two six year terms. A fiscal note estimates the first year cost at about 26,453 with salary and court reporter expenses.
