Hearnes signs aged aid bill and park upgrades

Governor Warren E. Hearnes signed a major welfare measure to aid families and old age assistance. The bill allows home care options and conversations with employers, and eligibility for benefits will not hinge on other agreements. He also approved funds to preserve historic wooden bridges and to establish a State Park Board.

Missouri highway bids asked for June 23

The Missouri Highway Commission called for bids to be opened June 23 on about 12 million dollars of improvements covering 40 miles of state and federal highways. The House passed a bill allowing counties or cities to operate ambulances amid ambulance service reductions in Boone County. The measures propose interstate project funding and a state tax commission step to reassess property.

House schedules redistricting bill in week plan

Due process issue in water rates hearing debated

The Public Service Commission faced a due process dispute during a Jefferson City water rate hearing. Polish émigré attempts to assassinate U S ambassador

An attempted assassination near the U S Embassy in Paris involved a 56-year-old Polish emigrant who grabbed a car door and threatened Charles E. Bohlen the U S ambassador. Police seized him for investigation and said the man appeared incoherent. The embassy refused to disclose details.
