Lyon Conference Meant Four Year War for Missouri

Cotton crop shows variable progress across states

Last year's dune crop reached 524000 acres with 493000 picked yielding 185 pounds lint per acre. This year began fair but May's low temperatures slowed germination and plant development. A May 24 windstorm damaged sandy areas. By early June overall cotton belt condition stood at 176.6 percent, with state figures ranging from 72 percent in Virginia to 90 in Arizona and New Mexico, Georgia at 78, Florida 88, Alabama 80, Mississippi 84, Louisiana 84, North Carolina 74.4, South Carolina 71.0.

Cotton crop in Missouri near normal at 77 percent

The June report shows Missouri cotton at 77 percent normal, up from 52 percent last year, based on the Federal State Crop Reporting Bureau. Planting began May 6 and reached a stand by May 18. average fertilizer cost was $32 per ton applied to eight percent of acreage. officials said the revised 1925 Missouri cotton acreage will be announced July 2.
