Deaths Rites Slated Sunday For Mrs. Dawson

Mrs. Horace I. Dawson 52 died at 3 45 a m yesterday at 1907 W Main St Shel. She was born May 8 1901 at Wayland Mo daughter of Cornelius and Elizabeth Morris and educated in Wayland public schools. Survived by daughter Mrs Leland Rice of Shel. and two sons John and James Dawson of the Osage Valley area. Funeral Sunday at 4 p m at the Methodist church with Rev Arthur Hunt, burial Monday 2 p m in Ka de Ark Cemetery. Mrs Dawson active in the Methodist church and PEO Chapter FS.

Bill broadens social security system signed

Gov. Phill M Donnelly signed a bill broadening the social security system to cover employees of health centers libraries and other agencies operated jointly by several governmental units. The change becomes effective August 29 and aims to include workers in mutual governmental services across counties. The act also increases county clerk funding in third class counties with populations over 30 000 to hire extra clerks and directs the state insurance superintendent to destroy all records under legislative committee supervision.

Postal Employes to Elect Officers at 14th Annual Convention

Missouri association officers will be elected this morning as the 14th annual convention closes with a noon banquet at the Governor Hotel. President Charles W. Kyhl of St. Louis presided as Ross Messer of Washington, D.C., outlined national legislation affecting postal workers and led a Q and A on vacation and sick leave. A private party at the hotel ballroom closed yesterday’s sessions for Ou l delegates. In Jefferson City, Albert Brauner filed for divorce from Margaret Brauner on grounds of general indignities. he listed occupation as prison guard and cited their marriage on June 16, 1921.

Arraigned Here On Check Charges

A check artist apprehended in Hillsboro after a spree of bad checks in Jefferson and Linn counties was arraigned in Magistrate Court. John George Haverstick alias Leroy Summers faced four counts, bond set at 2060 on each, and was committed to Cole County jail. Local merchants identified him as the scam target, with six area shops named. William Farnum Dies at 76 in Hollywood. He starred in silent films and underwent bladder ailment surgery May 27. He died of uremia at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital with widow Isabelle at his side. The actor’s adopted son, Farnum Jr., carries the family name per court approval. Blair Denies Divorce to Niemans in Jefferson

Circuit Judge Sam C Blair yesterday refused to issue a divorce decree to Carl Henry Nieman and Soi Lucille Nieman of Jefferson. Both had sought divorce, with Mrs. Nieman filing May 8 1933 on grounds of indignities and Nieman countering with a cross bill. They were married April 26 1937, a child born Oct 24 1949, and separated April 14 1953. Judge Blair ordered Nieman to pay $180 for Mrs Nieman's attorney costs.

Wyrick Acquires Building and Grocery From Strange Couple

Charley Wyrick completed a purchase securing ownership of the building and grocery formerly owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Strange. Wyrick assumed operation of the grocery this week as part of the deal. Vacation Bible School at Tuscumbia Baptist Church held commencement exercises on Thursday evening. The final day featured a picnic at Riverside Park in Tuscumbia. Rev. Robert Todd, pastor of the church, served as superintendent.
