Jefferson City area logs show 1192 registrations by 9 pm with booths kept open to count more names. Sheriff Richter reports orderly process. by noon, lists advance to the governor then Washington.
Springfield, June 5. J Holland Keet returned home from the Ozarks as a violent storm raged but his kidnapped son Lloyd was missing. Keet declined to explain the trip or reveal any word from the abductors amid a tense family and police pursuit.
A six hour riot at Joliet Penitentiary ends with 200 stubborn inmates in a corner under bayonets as soldiers, fire crews, and officials fight to quell the unrest. Five buildings burn and injuries occur before rain and firmness restore control.
Five men were arrested in Jasper after a confession from a band member revealed a plot to kill registration officials to interfere with the registration process. Government agents reported the information tonight.
Paris reports the British ship Yarra was sunk by a submarine in the Mediterranean. Thirty six persons are missing while six hundred fifty four were saved.

Neugault in Marquette County was placed under martial law by Governor Sleeper to suppress I. W. W. anti conscription activity. Soldiers seized the labor temple and McDonald opera house where a meeting was in progress. Orders barred anti draft parades by I. W. W. leaders.
Washington reports the War Department estimates 10,500,000 men of military age registered today, surpassing expectations. Tonight's figures show about 250,000 more registrants than anticipated, boosting administration hopes.
Rio de Janeiro June 5 An American squadron arrived in South American waters. The chamber of deputies voted to cable congratulations to the United States on its arrival. Officers of the American squadron were welcomed.
British travelers report growing public support in Japan for active participation in land and sea war. The aim is a quicker end to the war with America’s entry amplifying the desire. While Japan could profit from special circumstances, leaders prefer peace. any military offer would likely be taken if proposed, though still tentative.
Fort Riley Kan June 5 Men in the officers' training camp are scheduled for 50 hours of hard work during the next five days. Instructors are non commissioned officers providing drills while target practice begins. More than 100 doctors will form the medical reserve company and are quartered temporarily in artillery post quarters and mess halls.
Bixby Oklahoma June 5 six men died when the Moon Gasoline Company plant exploded and two injured men are expected to recover authorities said.
A large parade drew 1500 people including men women and children in Jefferson City to honor the Navy. The governor’s wife attended as a nurse during memorable ceremonies.
A Navy enlistment parade drew about 1,500 men women and children. Mayor Frank Chapman led the march toward the court house where Dr R E Cain J H Scissors and others urged enlistments. Navy pictures at Gem theatre followed the speeches.
Ray Palmblade of the Jefferson City Light Heat and Power Company was listed in Columbia on business.
Moberly Missouri reports an evening cyclone hitting Centralia around 8 80, with three or more dead and potentially higher totals. Fifty buildings including a church destroyed, many injured, wires down, and a special train carrying physicians dispatched from Moberly. Other tornado deaths noted in Shawnee and Waubansee counties near Topeka.
Navy League officers and bluejackets left for St Louis after a Pullman car was arranged by Agent Feind of the Missouri Pacific. Recruits were sworn in at the Monroe house and urged to obtain further enrollments. A medical officer will visit soon for disability exams.

British forces in night attacks gained ground south of the Souchez river and now hold the electric light plant after a fierce battle. The plant had been the focus of heavy fighting and is reported in British possession.
