Ownership of bodies subject of negotiations
The Cole County Court plans to meet with state corrections officials next week to determine who should bear burial costs for a state penitentiary inmate who died after an assault. The county has not paid such costs before, and Boone County may be liable since the death occurred there. The body was returned for autopsy, then buried locally, with donation to the university considered but declined due to death circumstances.
