A citizens committee launched the Christmas Dollars for Joy campaign to raise ten thousand dollars for safer Christmas decorations in Jefferson City business districts. Donors may mail contributions to PO Box 778 Jefferson City MO 65101, with Al Hall as chair.
The May wholesale price index rose four tenths of one percent led by higher prices for steel and metals and a sharp fuels upturn. The Bureau of Labor Statistics noted metals and metal products drove about seven percent of the rise with fuels contributing further, while farm prices climbed nine tenths.
The Callaway County Court has taken under advisement the proposed Holts Summit incorporation after an all day hearing in Fulton. Petitioners argued for incorporation while opponents led by Earl Powell contended the town should remain as is citing Jefferson City services.

An open house for Houser Funeral Service at 2613 West Main runs 2 to 10 p.m. today and Sunday with a 2 p.m. Sunday dedication led by Gideon N. Houser. Catholic Missourian editor Hugh Behan and Rev Harald J. Laursen will officiate. Tours of the Colonial single level building will be offered. the previous 216 Hast McCarty location has closed.
Dr E R Price appointed acting director of District Health Unit Three in Jefferson City and will remain director of the Bureau of Veterinary Public Health. He began with the Division of Health in 1950 and earned a D V M from Auburn in 1937. He has led several public health associations in Missouri and the region. Dozier earns degree at Central Methodist College in Fayette as part of 145 seniors.
James Schell was named valedictorian of the 1971 Jefferson City Senior High School graduating class at commencement. Glenda Kappelman was salutatorian and the eight other top 16 graduates included Brenda Marcantonio Patsy Bates Me Adamson Ruth Eccles Deborah Adams Virgie Nolte Phillip Poepsel Mike Davis Sharon Vaughn and James Ailor. Community awards went to Donna Lynch Robert Gurnee Paul Duke. Dr Richard Brownlee spoke. John Hearne and Dr Val Strader participated in diplomas and benediction.
Herbert G. Klein, Nixon's director of Communications, will speak at a $100 per plate GOP fundraiser on June 22 in the grand ballroom of Stouffer's Riverfront Inn at 7 pm. GOP finance chairman Donald L. Wolfsberger said the proceeds aid Nixon's re election and bolster Republican representation. Wolfsberger plans to resign as finance chairman.
Warden Harold Swenson said Michael Ray Jewell, jailed for second degree murder in Jackson County, was moved to the University of Missouri Medical Center with a fractured skull after an attack by two black militants wielding a steel bar and a knife. Teammates Monty Tennison and Larry Gene Wickster, jailed for robbery and theft, were also assaulted but less seriously injured. Deann Driver and William Zimmerman of Jefferson City made Northwest Missouri State College dean’s list.
