Iceberg sinks ferry. all aboard saved in Labrador rescue

The 8300 ton William Carson struck an iceberg off Square Islands and sank with 100 passengers and crew. All were rescued, 42 flown to Mary's Harbor and St. Anthony, the rest saved by the government icebreaker Sir Humphrey Gilbert. The ship carried 100 people and about 1000 tons of cargo including beer.

Flood plain mapping sought for Cole County area

County and city officials met with Black and Veatch of Kansas City to review flood plain mapping after dissatisfaction with two Michael Baker Jr maps. Labor boosts youth jobs as cities share $20 million

In Kansas City, the head of the regional Organized Crime and Racketeering Section resigns effective July 2 after criticizing sentencing in organized crime cases. In Washington, Labor Secretary Ray Marshall announces $20 million for 23,600 summer jobs in 38 cities to aid unemployed youths, especially in inner cities. The program, part of the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act, brings total jobs to 1,089,400, with New York City receiving $5.7 million.

Ex-Judge Cady Sentenced for Insurance Fraud in St Louis

Former St Louis city judge George W. Cady, 50, received five years in prison and an $18,000 fine after his May 23 conviction on eight counts of mail fraud and one of conspiracy. He defrauded nine auto insurers by submitting inflated medical bills. The judge also imposed three years probation post release and Cady plans to appeal.
