The Civil Aeronautics Authority boosts a three quarter plan to train 45 000 new pilots by July 1 1941 to feed potential fighter crews for the army and navy. Hinckley notes 550 centers will operate with 9 800 pilots to June 30 from the 1939 40 program.

New York June 3 AP Joseph Schenck head of 20th Century Fox was indicted by a federal grand jury for income tax fraud conspiracy and false statements to investigators. He faced one count alleging defrauding the government of over 400000 in 1935 to 1937. Co defendant was his book keeper Joseph H Moskowitz accused of aiding evasion.
The National Governors Conference adopted a defense statement urging immediate and adequate readiness for national defense. Governor Aiken of Vermont explained it as an honest opinion, avoiding conflict over President Roosevelt’s mobilization authority. ST. LOUIS June 3 AP John A Busch president of Brown Shoe says European war demand for leather has not raised civilian shoe prices. He notes some shoes, especially heavy hide models, cost less than six months ago. The remark comes as tanning firms anticipate large European orders.
