Shortage Shown In County Office Audit
Charleston Missouri Mississippi County court heard that an audit by State Auditor Haskell Homan found a $12,998 shortage in the accounts of Oliver F Goodin former circuit court clerk and recorder. The audit covered 1951 to 1954 until his death by bullet wound deemed self inflicted. Goodin a Democrat had been re elected to a new term before his death. He was held under a $7,000 bond. The report noted incomplete records in Goodin's office.

Rescue Two Children From New York Canal
In Schuylerville Wayne Weidman left his two children in a car while paying a bill. The vehicle rolled 10 feet then fell 12 feet into the Champlain Canal, settling in six feet of water. Passersby Jeri Mayer and Rollie Haley rescued Wayne Jr. and Christine, both unharmed. Police said the child may have manipulated the car controls.

Settlement Reached in Major Liquor Antitrust Suit
In St Louis attorney Mortimer A. Rosecan announced seven liquor distillers and distributors settled a 9 million antitrust and restraint of trade suit filed in 1953. The largest payment was 150000 by Joseph E Beagrams & Son Inc and Lawrenceburg Inc covering affiliates. other settlements ranged from 40000 to 70000. Fleischmann Distilling is still negotiating. The suit claimed pricing differentials against Katz Drug Co and People's Liquor Stores.
