Missouri April Nonfarm Employment Rises Slightly

Missouri nonfarm employment rose 1 percent in April from March to 1,102,700 but fell 1.3 percent versus April 1949. total jobs increased as durable goods grew while apparel and leather goods shrank. manufacturing lost 2,200 jobs, offset by a 790 gain in construction and government work led by new manufacturing.

Lawyer Appointed to Mediation Panel in St. Louis Contract Dispute

J Granoff, a Kansas City lawyer, was appointed by the state board of mediation as public member and chairman of a fact finding panel to hear a wage dispute between the St. Louis Public Service Company and the AFL union. Circuit Judge Warren L. White of Springfield resigned after criticism from the union. Other panel members are John C. Baine for the company and Malcolm L. Bartley for the union. Hearings begin June 12 on unsettled contract issues.

Polio Institute To Be Held Here

One of six two day Institutes on the diagnosis and treatment of polio will be held at the Junior college auditorium here June 27 and 24 announced by the state health division.
