Canadian leader Pearson dies at 75 in Ottawa
Ottawa AP Lester B. Pearson former Canadian prime minister and Nobel Peace Prize winner died Wednesday night of cancer at his Ottawa home at age 75. A state funeral will be held Sunday at Christ Church Cathedral with his body lying in state Saturday in Parliament. Pearson, who guided welfare reforms and national medical care, helped forge the UN Peacekeeping Force in the Middle East and led Canada during a pivotal era. He leaves Maryon, a daughter and a son.

Traffic accidents claim four in state
Four persons were reported killed and several others injured Wednesday in traffic accidents across the state. A three car crash on Interstate 70 west of St. Charles claimed three lives including Mary Belle Harris and her four year old daughter Desiree. Theresa Muretich, Jeannette Doyle, and four other occupants were injured. A wreck on Route 36 in Linn County near Brookfield killed Victoria Edna Stewart with others injured. In mid Missouri, James Baylor and Kathy Mounter were slightly injured on Route 40 in Boone County. John Hundt suffered minor injuries on Highway 15 in Audrain County.
