U S trade deficit seen as likely for 1971 end

U S trade data show a November deficit of 1.7 billion for January through November 1971, with exports at 3.16 billion and imports at 3.39 billion. Despite a 227.2 million November deficit improvement from October’s 821.4 million, the 11 month gap points to an annual shortfall not seen since 1893.

Audits Find Mixed Results in Marion and Macon Counties

State Auditor Christopher Bond issued audits of Marion and Macon counties on Tuesday. Marion County showed overcharges of 3449.92 by former Assessor James E. Lindsay enters primary in Miami announces bid for Democratic nomination

Intangible tax forms mailed in Cole County for 1972

Cole County Treasurer Paul W. Hogg announced mailing blank 1972 intangible tax forms on Monday. Blank forms can be picked up at the courthouse for those who will be liable next year but did not receive a mail form. The state collects the tax on investment interest and distributes 98 percent to local governments. Cole County's 1971 share totaled 297,242.10 with school districts receiving 227,144.63 and Jefferson City Schools 216,507.87. Insurance firm fined for unlicensed solicitation in Missouri

The Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company was fined 7500 dollars by Missouri state insurance superintendent William Y. McCaskill for soliciting insurance through a non licensed agent Edwin Blumenthal. The division cited failure to follow regulations requiring a comparison sheet when replacing life policies and pledged to contact affected policyholders to answer questions and ensure customer satisfaction. The company has operated since 1929 and adopted its current name in 1945.

Hearings slated on merger plans in Missouri and Arkansas

Missouri Extends Unemployment by 13 Weeks Starting Jan 2

Missourians exhausting unemployment insurance may receive 13 additional weeks at the same benefit rate. Wrong way driver put on probation

A House Springs man, 48, was placed on four years probation after pleading guilty to manslaughter in a January I-70 collision at East Grand Boulevard that killed a Medford mother Shirley Dale and her seven year old daughter Mary. Judge Butler noted probation recommended by the Missouri Board and barred alcohol during probation.
