INDIANAPOLIS AP The Speer Siamese twins born November 29 in Bedford died on Christmas Day about an hour apart, 27 days after birth. They shared brain tissue, making separation impossible, and lived head to head in an incubator at Indiana University Medical Center under parental care of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Speer.
Roy P. Porter about 40 a former AP correspondent in Europe died unexpectedly this morning. Porter and his wife had come from New York to attend his mother in law's funeral. Coroner says death was due to natural causes. Porter worked in England Germany and France for AP and served NBC as a war era commentator. He returned to the United States about four months ago. An application for a marriage license was filed Friday for Edmund Burdette Searr of Napoleon Q and Miss Mary Lou Rapp of Jefferson City.
Charles H. Allen 48 longtime News Tribune press room superintendent died after brain tumor surgery at Research hospital Kansas City He came to the paper in 1927 and had been ill recently Survived by his widow and daughter Mrs Robert Gray of Mission Kansas The family home is 221 West Filmore Funeral plans pending arrival of relatives.
A Russellville resident died after suffering a heart attack on a street while en route to Jefferson City. Mr. West, born October 7, 1887, was the son of the late Jeppha and Anna West and married March 21, 1915 to Migs Brooksie Scheppers. Survivors include two daughters Mrs. Archie Glover and Mrs. Roy Jobe of Russellville and a sister Mrs. Leona Steenbergen of near Russellville. twelve siblings preceded him in death.

Lawrence A. Zimmerman, 50, of 622a West Main Street, died Friday morning after an eight month illness. A Cheavens Construction worker formerly with Schell Construction in Columbia, he was born near Brazito in Cole County and lived here all his life. Survived by wife, two sons Lawrence E. and Harold I, daughter Margaret Benboom, three sisters Anna Elliott, Lucy Cooper, Reta Lammers, and brother George E. Zimmerman. Harold was in Germany with the Army of Occupation when his father fell ill.
Mrs Emma Cox 70, of Useful Missouri near Useful, Mn, died Christmas Day after a seven year illness. An invalid for about three years, she was the widow of James Rhodes and Edith Bramble and had lived her entire life in the area.
Mrs. Cox, married to Tom Cox for 48 years, is survived by her husband and three sons Tretlie Cox of Granite City NL Owen of Vandalia and Jeff of Jacksonville Florida, and two daughters Mrs Clare Drewell Vandalia and Mrs Gus Hartwick of Ghamais. Also surviving are two sisters Mrs Buster Miller Useful and Mrs Wilton Ferguson West Plains and four brothers Leonard Rhodes Edwardsville HH Boyd Grays Summit Mo Lawrence Granite City TH and Jesse Vinita Okla.
Mrs. W. A. Leyhe, 78, Dallas resident for 40 years, dies after a long illness. She is survived by husband, a daughter Edna Robinson, two sons Wilson Leyhe and George Leyhe, a brother Circuit Judge Walter Higbee of Lancaster Missouri, and three sisters. Funeral services will be held here tomorrow.
Clement Calhoun Young 78, the state's 26th governor, died last night in Berkeley. He served as governor from January 4, 1927, to January 6, 1931 after two terms as lieutenant governor and ten years in the state assembly. A Republican, he supported the Lincoln Progressive faction allied with Hiram Johnson.
In Gardnerville a drunken Indian, enraged after his father rebuked him for drinking, tipped a stove and poured gasoline into a fire. The blast trapped Indians in a 30 foot square gambling shack, killing ten and badly burning seven others. Greeley Jim, 24, a paratrooper veteran, and several relatives perished. his father escaped. A mass funeral is planned.

A two car head on collision Friday morning on Highway 54, three miles south of Jefferson City, injured Alfred F. Sanders 42 Russellville, Frank A. Schenewerk 52 and Patsy K. Creason 42. Sanders and Schenewerk suffered serious but non critical injuries. Creason had three broken ribs and was discharged after treatment at St Marys hospital. Damages were $250 and $359 respectively.
GLYNDON Minn Dec 26 AP Sheriff Curran said Betty Lou Hanson 13 remains critical after her father Alvin Hanson 47 shot her and Phyllis 14 then killed himself as divorce quarrel followed the Christmas morning shooting. Neighbors summoned officers who entered the home finding Hanson dead by shotgun.

Holiday visitors included Adrian Beuckmann and infant Thomas Lee, and Hofmanns hosting Mrs Sudheimer and Carolyn. Several readers spent Christmas with relatives, hosting and traveling between St. Louis, Jefferson City, and nearby towns. birth announced for Dennis Regan in St. Joseph as Frank Shea’s wife is a niece of Mrs Jobe.
President Truman appoints Wayne Coy radio director of the Washington Post as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission effective immediately. Coy succeeds Charles R. Denny who resigned October 31 to become a company vice president. Ewell K. Jett resigns December 31 and George E. Sterling of Portland Maine is named to the commission.
Oklahoma City reports a Christmas Prohibition drought with bootleg liquor scarce. Police captured 130 pints as demand surged and wholesalers struggled to supply small buyers. A fire at 308 Adams Street caused minor roof damage and was attributed to an overheated slave. Funeral notices include W. S Fuller of Butler Missouri, 67, who died after illness. Herman Gerling of Meta is hospitalized at St Marys with satisfactory condition.

JOPLIN Mo Bee reports a handcuffed fugitive overpowered a State Highway Patrol trooper near Nevada Missouri and escaped. Identified as Hubert Howard Fifer 35 he had escaped a Pampa Texas jail last December 14. A large search by patrol officers and a sea patrol plane covered dense wooded sections in the Carthage Jasper area. The note adds a historical aside about Napoleon from Corsica to St Helena.
