Dr John Lewis a 73 year old Presbyterian clergyman who served a one to five year arson term in state prison for burning Calvary Church downtown Milwaukee was granted an absolute pardon by Gov Oscar Rennebohm. The fire caused about 100000 dollars in damage to the church.
The United States has drilled nearly one million oil wells, with over 200,000 yielding dry holes, reflecting extensive exploration and high early futility rates.

Jacoby is spending Christmas in Warrensburg with his family. Miss Ruby Tinney at 316 East McCarty is visiting in St. Louis with Mr. and Mrs. James Schlitt. Mrs. ER. S. Hopen and son Delbert at 302 Hamlin are spending Christmas in St. Louis with J. J. Hopen and family. Miss Ruth Jacquin at 116 East McCarty is spending Christmas in Washington with her parents. Students from Rolla School of Mines home for Christmas include William Wisch, Charles Mace, Donald Campf, Chuck Daniells, Edgar Lancaster, Delmo Brugioni, Leroy Markway.
City police completed a Christmas deed by supplying an elderly Walnut Street resident with a heating stove and a load of wood. The pensioner, living on a limited income, had only a small oil stove for heat. Chief Ben Markway arranged assistance after a phone request and the Benz company donated the stove while funds from the Policemen's Ball bought firewood.
Washington reports progress toward revising the American policy in Japan on Zaibatsu breakdown and post occupation holdings. Undersecretary Robert A. Lovett outlined the program amid Senator Knowland’s call for a congressional probe. Knowland accused a confidential document of showing a policy not in line with American standards of decency and fair play.
James Cowley son of Mr and Mrs A B Cowley of Ten Mile drive was reported in satisfactory condition at Boone County hospital Wednesday after injuries from a car crash near Columbia Tuesday. He sustained a long neck cut chest injuries a fractured collar bone and a minor back injury. The accident occurred about 3 pm as Cowley and passengers Roger Wallace and C A Smith Jr traveled to Columbia. Wallace and Smith were uninjured.
The freighter Simon Benson arrived in Honolulu harbor at night under Coast Guard escort after reporting heavy seas on December 15. SOS said the ship's plates were split and water flooded cargo of rice, with swelling rice risking hull damage.
Tally B Enloe Jr 15 dies in St Marys hospital at 5 am Wednesday from injuries in a Monday evening crash in the 400 block on West Dunklin street. Son of Tally B Enloe and Mrs Enloe of 330 Bolivar street he suffered a skull fracture and facial cuts after a car driven by Delbert Snndzers Holt Summit crashed into a parked truck after being blinded by another car. A St Peters High School 10th grader and athlete born Sept 26 1932 in Jefferson City he lived here all his life. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers John Jefferson City and Lt Joseph B Enloe Marietta Ga a sister.

Mrs. Ethel Hollenbeck former Meta resident died last Monday at her Lemay Missouri home after a short illness. She leaves husband Frank and four Lemay children Lloyd Donald Vera and Janet along with her mother Mrs Martha Drummond. Burial will be Friday at Meta.
