Missouri Governor Proposes $20.8 Million Mental Retardation Program

Highway body okays U.S. 63 four lane expansion near Jefferson City

Missouri State Highway Commission tentatively approves a 1.8 mile four lane divided upgrade of U.S. 63 east of Jefferson City with a new Osage River bridge and a directional interchange at U.S. 63 and 50. Plan spans areas to U.S. 62-50, includes a new bridge and half mile of U.S. 50, pending public hearings before final approval.

Short paycheck dampens spirits at Capitol Secretaries

Missouri House part-time secretaries received only a week of December pay with the rest delayed until mid January. Francis Byrnes said hours must be certified by end of month, causing a one week payout to help Christmas expenses. Government offices to close for holidays in Capital City

Christmas Eve will see most state county and city offices shut for part of the day with only essential services remaining. Jefferson City police court will stay open for its session then close thereafter. State government will observe a four day holiday over Christmas and again over New Year as an energy conservation measure.

Americans back energy regulations in Gallup poll

Gallup poll of 1,550 adults taken November 30 to December 3 shows 73 percent conserve energy by lowering thermostats and 62 percent drive slower to save fuel. About 49 percent support current government restrictions, 39 percent want stricter rules, and 6 percent have no opinion.
