Navy youths home on Christmas leaves from Navy schooling

Jefferson City youths William Ward and Brian Malone are home on 15 day leaves. Ward, from CSSA U S Navy, is visiting his parents at 135 Boonville Road after enlisting September 8 1948 and taking recruit leave November 14. He will return to the cooks and bakers school at Bayonne New Jersey. Malone, from YNSA U S Navy, finished Yeoman school in Norfolk Virginia and is on leave while assigned to USS Greenwood DE 679 to serve with his brother Robert. He enlisted June 7 1948 and received recruit leave September 16.

Deaths James A. Cooley Former Judge Here Dies In Joplin

James A. Cooley 76 a former Missouri State Supreme Court commissioner and circuit judge died Tuesday in a Joplin hospital after a year of ill health. He had lived with son in law Dr L C Pickrell in Baxter Springs for three years. Survived by two brothers and a sister, his body to be sent to Kirksville for funeral services.

Mrs C Norvell of Bonnots Mill Dies

Cornelia Norvell of Bonnots Mill died Monday night at St. Marys hospital after a liver ailment. Born April 30 1880 she lived in Bonnots Mill her entire life. Her husband died in 1904. A lifelong Methodist she leaves one son John D Norvell of Bennets Mill, three brothers J H Dieckriede of 303 West High St Jefferson City G H Dieckviede of 702 Broadway Jefferson City and Charles Dieckriede of Hot Springs Ark, plus a granddaughter Mrs Jammes Lindsay of Kansas City.

Crump Dies At Columbia Home

W A Crump dies at his Columbia residence survived by three children and seven grandchildren. He was born April 4 1858 in Keytesville and married twice, later living in Jefferson City and Columbia. He taught school, ran a Ashland merchandising business, retired 30 years ago, and was a Modern Woodman member.

Mrs Alma White Manlove Dies In Joplin

Alma White Manlove wife of former Missouri congressman Joe J Manlove died after a long illness in Joplin. She was mother to Lt Col White Manlove stationed at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington. Funeral services set for Thursday in Joplin. A separate note mentions a theory that planetoids formed from explosions of primitive planets.

Marriage license filing for Turpin and Hollcroft in Rocky Mount

Jimmie Franklin Turpin and Carrie Victoria Hollcroft filed a marriage license yesterday in the bounty recorder's office, both of Rocky Mount. Harold Lusk of 812 Mulberry Street enlisted for a three year term in the Missouri National Guard headquarters detachment. Lusk is a junior college student and a photographer and photo engraver at the News Tribune.

Jefferson City Youths to Ski Resort Take Holiday Program

Jack Holmes Jack Wallace and Allen Fischer join 35 local university students for a week at The Aspens near Glenwood Springs Colorado. The resort offers clothes skiing gear and all lodging in one fixed sum. Participants include 25 students from the west coast and 35 from Texas. Wallace and Fischer study at the University of Missouri Holmes attends Washington University in St Louis.

Man reports bird dog theft while hunting near New Bloomfield

A six year old liver colored bird dog belonging to T. H. Irwin of 501 Host Capitol was stolen around 1 p m Sunday while Irwin hunted with two dogs near New Bloomfield. A search was of no avail yesterday by police.
