Would-be witness shot to death near Eureka

Donald F. Hedrick a 25 year old in St. Louis County was found shot four times along the Meramec River in Eureka while he was to testify in a calf theft case involving Omega Motorcycle Club members. Hedrick had pleaded guilty to theft and was on probation and restitution.

Inmate Receives Two More Years For Assault At Penitentiary

Missouri inmate Larry Dale Wintten of St. Charles pled guilty to three counts of assault and was sentenced in Cole County Circuit Court to two-year terms on each count, to run concurrently after a 93 year prior sentence from Texas County. In separate actions, two Algoa reformatory inmates Mike Morrison of Clark County and Johnny Kelly of Scott County received two-year concurrent terms after pleading guilty to escape.

Bond Proposal Discussed for Cole County R II Schools

The Cole County R II School District board met to consider a bond to build a new elementary school. Supt Schnieders cited higher assessed valuation as making a bond feasible soon. The board also reviewed proposed changes to the school foundation program and planned the Dec 22 faculty Christmas dinner.

Vets advised of date for GI bill eligibility changes

Veterans discharged between January 31 1955 and June 1 1966 have until May 31 1974 to use college benefits and until August 31 1975 for flight farm or on the job training. The eight year limit begins at discharge. For post Korean veterans eight years from discharge or from June 1 1966 whichever is later. Contact VA for eligibility details.

Four Die In Missouri Weekend Crashes

Four persons died in Missouri highway crashes over the weekend. Ora Lee Miles and his granddaughter Gawann Miles of Steelville perished when Miles’ car veered off Mo 8 and struck a pickup four miles east of Steelville. Ruby Kilmer of Barnett died in a head on collision on Route C0 west of Route CC in Miller County. Thomas Brammer of Marceline died from Friday night injuries after a head on crash on Mo 5 near Marceline. Betty Joann Fisher of Eldon sustained minor injuries when her vehicle left the road on Route CC near U S 54 in Miller County.

Goldwater urges fast end to Nixon impeachment talks

Senator Barry Goldwater told the Christian Science Monitor that House leaders must shut up or put up as impeachment proceedings move quickly. He criticized Nixon for delays, saying openness would have resolved Watergate and possibly boosted the President's popularity. Jan McConner, 23, rode her horse Jack 50 miles from Ross to New Richmond after the Midwest Auto Store break‑in and gun theft. Police investigated a broken window and missing firearms as she crossed Cincinnati’s streets at night, guiding the horse through crime areas and past a whistling train.

Slain Frakntourt couple identified in Missouri shooting

Ralls County authorities await autopsy results for Ralph Lacy aged 43 and Beverly Jo Lacy aged 38 found dead in a rural Frankfort Missouri home Saturday night. Police say the couple were shot about 48 hours earlier with a small caliber weapon. Ralph four times and Beverly Jo twice.
