Parole Revoked In Hammen Case
Magistrate Foster Wheatly revoked the parole of Larry Hammen of Rt. 1 and sentenced the 18 year old youth to 6 days in the county jail. Hammen and two other youths were paroled last July 14 for two years on charges of destroying property at a local service station. Prosecutor James J. Riley sought revocation after Hammen admitted pleading guilty to peace disturbance in California Missouri. He was fined 25 dollars and costs. The youths allegedly used profane language at California High School on Nov. 18 while seeking a girl. Hammen claimed he did not participate. one youth insulted a school official. Hammen said he had bought intoxicating beverages earlier. He was arrested last October for fighting with Norbert Heilmann behind the high school. case not prosecuted.

Delay in Alarm Blamed for Heavy Toll at Chicago School Fire
Chicago officials testified at a coroner's inquest into the Our Lady of the Angels school fire that a delay in sounding the alarm and a mislisted address helped cause 92 deaths among pupils and nuns. Fire Commissioner Robert Quinn said had firefighters reached the school three minutes earlier, many lives might have been saved. He noted discrepancies about when the alarm sounded and that two people inside the building failed to raise it promptly. The telephoned alarm reached the rectory address, delaying response. Suggestions included enclosing vertical openings, adding public telephones on tall floors, more exits, improved alarms, fire doors, and enclosed stairwells in older buildings.
