United Community Fund executive director Mrs Ruth Meloy says contributions total 161000 toward a 172000 goal as of Tuesday noon. A Monday meeting will revise agency allotments and allow further donations to try to surpass last year’s 162000 total.
The Greater Jefferson City Drug Abuse Committee proposes education and community involvement as the first step to address a rising drug problem. Three study groups will pursue undercover agents feasibility, school and parent education, and a FISH program for emergency services.
St Louis University was awarded 11334 dollars from the State Department of Community Affairs. The funds finance an eight part forum on federalism with 7512 dollars and topics including a governor and mayor view of the system. The remaining 3824 dollars support Community Renewal program conferences.
Gov Warren E Hearnes supports a Missouri Railpax passenger line linking Kansas City and St Louis with federal funds. Jefferson City and the Missouri Public Service Commission press the route, while Mayor John G Christy gathers support from lawmakers along the corridor. The PSC prepares a case for December in Washington to extend service with city county and school statements of support.
The Cole County Grand Jury, which indicted State Treasurer William E. Robinson and returned 15 other indictments, ran up a total of 2293.20 dollars for 26 sessions and 54 witnesses. Kenneth Ray Hich yards, 24, of Potosi, is charged in the killings of August Walker, 83, and his wife Rebecca, 66, found dead in their rural home eight miles north of Potosi. The weapons were recovered and Richards said there is no bond for the suspect. The motive remains unclear.
Peter Scott won the Major Burridge Award for his speech "Doubt, Faiths and Belief" at a Toastmasters Club meeting on Monday night. A customer at S H Green Stamp Co 1708 Missouri Blvd caused a smashing exit when her car struck a window in the store's parking lot. Police report damage estimated at 300 dollars and the incident occurred Monday evening.

Sen. Robert P. Griffin proposes freeing all ill and wounded enemy POWs along with 1,500 able bodied North Vietnamese captives to aid the return of American POWs. He calls for action before Tet and expects a sympathetic response from the Nixon administration.
An off duty policeman and Dennis Lisager, both of St Louis, chased by hotel staff on the 16th floor of the Hel Air young Liscombe’s room. Liscombe leaped from the balcony and died. Investigators say Liscombe had been at the hotel since December and talked with his father about payment of a $217 bill before the incident.
