Scrambles On For Proposed US Airforce School
Washington dispatch reports a scramble to secure a site for a proposed US Air Force Academy. Sedalia Missouri is among candidates as Congress may authorize the academy next session. A site board, chaired by Lieut Col Arthur Boudreau, will evaluate proposals and aim for 9,000 acres to train 2,500 cadets with expansion possible. Plans call for proximity to a major population center, adequate utilities, suitable climate and nearby air field.

Death of Mrs. Mary Swillum in California
Mrs. Mary Johanna Swillum, 98, died this morning at the home of her daughter in California from infirmities of old age. Born November 24, 1856, in near Section in Moniteau County, she moved to a California farm at 14, married Lee A. Swillum in 1880, and was widowed in 1940. She is survived by a son, John Swillum, and a twin sister, Mary Catherine Fischer, who died in 1940. A member of Annunciation Catholic Church and its women’s sodality, she will be mourned at funeral services Thursday morning.

In Poplar Bluff Missouri doctors admit slim chance of recovery for Mrs Gertrude Sparkman 47 after a tornado destroyed the Sparkman home killing her husband Thomas and their three daughters. Mrs Sparkman was badly hurt and rescued by neighbors after the ruinous storm hit soon after a birthday party.
